Although Ricky Ponting was batting well, but the selectors of Australia are looking for future and thus they rested Ponting from the next two ODI matches of the five match series against New Zealand.

It is one type of showing him the way out from the team, though neither Ponting nor the ACB is reflecting this. Ponting is a bit unhappy with the decision. He said that it is painful to leave the team at this moment when team is already 1-0 down in the series.
