| Day 5 :~ Session 3 Man of the match :~ V Sehwag (India) |
The day some how did not belong to India as it was expected after the last day’s play. India somehow managed to keep the England score down to 316 but could not capitalize on the bonus that was offered by the English batsman. India kept on loosing wickets in regular intervals and therefore could not keep the score board tick away fast. India tried every possible way to increase the momentum but unfortunately, English bowlers bowled with greater control to keep batsman hunting those boundaries. Debut spinner Swann picked up two valuable Indian wickets to put a break in the run scoring. The pitch too behaved odd at times.
But still it was expected from the Indian batsman to use the Indian conditions well and create a big first innings score. Indians failed to do that but among all, the probability of getting a result in the match has become higher if there is no atmospherically interruption.England resumed their score of 229 and soon they lost them key man Andrew Flintoff.
He could not even open his account for the day when he got out of the bowling of Amit Mishra. Then Matt Prior and James Anderson hang there for too long to India’s liking to put up a valuable partnership and helping to get pass 300 run landmark. Matt Prior remained unbeaten at 53. He ran out of partners at the end of the innings. Harbhajan and Mishra both garbed 3 wickets where Zaheer ended up with two in his bag.
India started their innings very bad. Indian openers failed to give India a solid start as Sehwag was plumbed in front of wicket in the bowling of James Anderson. Then Rahul and Gambhir tried to steady the ship but both of them fell in the same over of the new comer Graeme Swann. Rahul Dravid failed to capitalize his opportunities after the failure of Australia series. He was set today also but suddenly got out of the new comer. That put India under lot of pressure. Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman tried to take the responsibility from there. They took India for a while but after that another wicket fell and that was VVS Laxman. He chiped the ball back to Monty panesar. Soon after that, Sachin also departed in the bowling of Freddy. India feared the follow on at that time.
But Yuvraj Singh and captain Dhoni tried to make the situation as easy as possible. At the end of the day, Yuvraj also fell to Harmission. Some quick fire from Harbhajan moved the score to 155 at the end of day’s play.
English bowlers have done exceedingly well to keep Indian score restricted to 155 today. Tomorrow they will be looking to wrap up the tail without considering many runs. On the other hand, India will try to get a good score on the board before they come to the field once again.
The first boundary from Shewag has brought India to 7 for no loss and himself to 5. Gambhir is there at 1.
After the lunch of the second day Yuvraj Singh stricked and took the first wicket of Harmison. Hence England are now at 305 for the loss of nine wicket, Prior is still there at 48 and the last man Panesar has arrived to give him company.
Zaheer khan gave the all important break-through with a genuine in swinger that completely missed the bat of Ian Bell. Then he allured the England captain to a mis-timed pull shot which found his own safe pair of hands. On the other end Strauss went on to make his 13th international century in tests. He targeted the new comer Amit Mishra with his slog sweep. But when Harbhajan took the wicket of Paul Collingwood, England was reduced to 195/4 which at a stage looked as 118/0. But the worst was yet to come. Just after hitting Amit Mishra for a boundary, Strauss ended up his innings giving a simple low return catch to Mishra. At the end of the day, the scorecard for England was 229/5 with Freddy in the crease.
Tomorrow, a lot will depend upon Freddy as there is not much batting left after him and Prior. On the contrary, Indians would be looking to wrap up the tail and post a huge first innings total to press for the win in the test.
Collingwood came to join Strauss and the first boundary from Collingwood brought England to 184 for the loss of 3 wickets.
One more boundary from Strauss brought England to 179 for loss off 2 wickets and he has completed his century too. Andrew Strauss has once again proved his utility by making century and converts to half century to century.First boundary from I Bell and England are at 139 for the loss of one wickets now.Brilliant boundary from Strauss has brought England to 139 for one loss and Strauss is at 75 now.Fifty for A Cook.100 of England came up with the single from Cook, and now A Strauss is at 51.15th Fifty for Strauss in 99 balls. At 12.24 pM IST, England has scored 83 for the no loss. A Strauss is playing at 45 and A Cook is batting at 37. England’s openers are set to resume their watchfully both of them provided an opening inning of 83.
